Completion Barrier Valve.
The Completion Barrier Valve is run in hole as part of the production tubing, providing a pressure barrier and preventing well fluids from entering the production tubing.
It enables the operator to run and test the completion equipment above the barrier and also set a hydraulic packer without the need of intervention. Having set the packer and tested the string, the valve can then be opened to allow production.
The Completion Barrier Valve is run in hole in the closed position and after a pre-determined time or when a pre-determined pressure signal is received, an actuator is triggered. This allows tubing pressure to shift a sleeve, which then opens the flapper leaving a smooth uninterrupted flow path through the tool. The tool incorporates a metered piston to ensure a slow, smooth activation. A rupture disc is also included in the design so that the electronics can be by passed if required. As a final safety measure a mechanical override can be employed via intervention techniques.
