Mark Buyers - Managing Director

 

Mark has a long history in oilfield service companies and Product Development. Entering the Oil and Gas Business with Flopetrol, Mark left to develop the first Mercury Free sampling service before branching out with Syd Fraser to establish the Omega name as a leading independent in the provision of electronic memory gauges, wireline tools and completion equipment.

 

Mark was the major driver behind the development of the highly innovative Saltus Slickline Trigger service in 1994. Recognising an industry need to reduce the costs associated with electric line operations, the Slickline intelligent firing head was developed. Saltus SubSurface Services, the company formed around this technology was sold to The Expro Group in 1998.

 

Specialising in Mechanical design, Mark has developed a number of tools that were licensed to other companies such as the Releasable Rope Socket and Unibalance Pressure Cycle Plug licensed to Petroline. Mark is a named author on 16 granted patents and another 5 in various stages of process.

 

 

 

David Forsyth - Technical Director.

 

David joined Omega in 1998, bringing extensive experience in the field of Completion design and wellbore intervention engineering. Starting with Baker Oil Tools in 1988, David rose to the position of Region Engineer, responsible for the introduction of new technology, product development and design.

 

Specific projects included design responsibility for multi-lateral systems (industry first triple lateral), flow control components, packers, annulur safety and lateral entry systems.

 

Since joining Omega, David has worked with Mark to develop the Omega Tractor, Horizontal Jar and SPOT tools to name a few. David is a named author on 10 granted patents with another 5 in various stages of process and has a Bachelor of Science Degree (Mechanical Engineering with Distinction).

 

 

 

 

 

Syd Fraser - Company Director / Electronics Design.

 

Syd has a long and distinguished background in electronic and electrical design and product development. Syd established Omega with Mark in 1990, following a career with a number of major companies involving pioneering work in the fields of memory pressure measurement and slim hole M.W.D. technologies.

 

Accomplishments to date include the design of all the electronics and firmware for a full MWD suite in addition to the range of Omega "run-it-yourself" gauges, shut-in tools, automatic calibration system, and the smart trigger developed for the Saltus business.

 

Syd is a named author on 7 Patents with a further 5 in various stages of process and has an Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Robert Gordons Institute of Technology, Aberdeen.
